One of my favorite shows last September was Vera Wang. I have a sort of “show me what you got and impress me” attitude towards certain designers and Vera Wang is one of them (another notable would be Donna Karan). With this collection, Vera showed me that she could do something other than wedding gowns and do them well. This is some very sophisticated stuff. Here, for the first time in this series of posts, will I show you every look from the show - 49 in all. Hope you folks enjoy it.

Wrap Your Troubles In Dreams [Demo Version]-The Velvet Underground-Peel Slowly And See |

The shots I’ve just posted over the last few days were from just the 1st day of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, Spring 2008 season from this last September. For me it was basically a dream come true. To have someone look at my work and hire me to shoot this event is akin to being signed up to play in The Superbowl. To give you an idea of what I mean I present the following;

What you see above is a shot of the Media Riser (i.e. The Pit) where video, TV, and photographers are located during shows. Since the show was in the main tent (at Bryant Park they divide the tents into three venues - The Salon, The Promenade, and The Tent) what you are seeing is a small section of nearly 500 or so photographers, TV Crewmen, and videographers all crammed together. All of us crammed together for various news and media outlets. Of that group, only about 25-30 are based in NYC.
Consider that. Out of all the photographers, video, and TV people in New York City, only 30 or so get into Fashion Week. Everyone else you see above come from all over the world. To be there you have to be good. This is the big leagues folks, and those people are the creme de la creme of runway coverage.
As egotistical as this may sound, yes I was chosen to be part of this elite group, and I feel honored and proud to be amongst them.
Finally, who do they hold these shows for? Primarily the buyers. Buyers are the folks who work for department stores, boutiques and what have you. They are the true makers of what we wear. They are the people who look at the model and say to themselves “Hmmm, I’ll think I’ll order 40,000 of those shoes.” Here they are, about 1,500 of them in the shadows....

For our friends in my family’s homeland of Spain, if any of these shots seem familiar, they should. They were published in Hola Valencia back in November.
